Chocolate Oreo Donuts

  • ▢1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ▢¼ cup dark cocoa powder (Dutch-processed or black cocoa)
  • ▢4 Oreos, finely ground (roughly ½ cup of crumbs)
  • ▢½ tsp baking powder
  • ▢½ tsp baking soda
  • ▢½ tsp salt
  • ▢½ cup white sugar
  • ▢¼ cup packed light or dark brown sugar
  • ▢6 tbsp melted unsalted butter
  • ▢1½ tsp pure vanilla essence
  • ▢½ cup room temperature sour cream
  • ▢2 room temperature large eggs

Creamy Cheese Frosting:

  • ▢2 oz full-fat cream cheese (room temp)
  • ▢2 tbsp unsalted butter (room temp)
  • ▢⅓ cup powdered sugar (adjust to your preference)
  • ▢¾ tsp vanilla essence
  • ▢1 tbsp milk or cream
  • ▢A pinch of salt (optional)

Rich Chocolate Coating:

  • ▢½ cup semi-sweet chocolate morsels
  • ▢¼ cup cream
  • ▢1¾ cups icing sugar
  • ▢4 tbsp melted unsalted butter
  • ▢¾ tsp pure vanilla essence
  • ▢2-4 tbsp hot water (adjust for consistency)

For Garnish:

  • ▢4 Oreos, finely ground or chopped

Procedure:

  1. Preparing Oreo Donuts:
    • Preheat the oven to 375 F. Prepare your donut pans by greasing them.
    • In a large mixing bowl, blend together flour, sugars, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, Oreo dust, and salt.
    • In another bowl, combine egg, sugars, vanilla, sour cream, and butter.
    • Gently mix the liquid mixture into the dry ingredients until a smooth batter forms.
    • Transfer the batter into the donut molds, filling them halfway.
    • Bake for around 8-10 minutes. Cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
  2. Creamy Cheese Frosting:
    • Whip together cream cheese and butter until smooth.
    • Incorporate vanilla and salt.
    • Gradually add in powdered sugar, then drizzle in milk or cream until you achieve the desired consistency.
  3. Rich Chocolate Coating:
    • Place chocolate in a bowl. Heat cream until it boils, then pour over the chocolate. Let it sit for a few minutes without stirring.
    • Gently mix until you get a glossy finish. Allow it to cool a bit before use.
  4. Finishing Touches:
    • Dunk each donut into your preferred frosting, then into the Oreo crumbs for that added crunch.
    • Let them set on a cooling rack.

Note:

  • The donuts taste best when fresh. If there are leftovers, keep them in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days. You can mix and match with the toppings as per your preference!
