Classic Baked Donuts with Chocolate Frosting

Ingredients:

For the Donuts:
  • 1 ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup milk (dairy or almond)
  • ⅛ tsp salt
For the Chocolate Frosting:
  • 3 tbsp heavy whipping cream
  • 1 ¼ cup chocolate chips (milk or dark chocolate)

Instructions:

For the Donuts:
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a donut baking pan by greasing the donut cavities.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the melted butter, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the egg and whisk until well combined.
  4. Stir in the vanilla extract and milk.
  5. Gradually mix in the flour and baking powder until the batter is smooth.
  6. Fill each donut cavity about 3/4 full with the batter.
  7. Bake for 10 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Once baked, invert the pan to release the donuts and let them cool.
For the Chocolate Frosting:
  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and heavy whipping cream.
  2. Microwave in short bursts, stirring in between, until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
  3. Dip the top of each cooled donut into the chocolate frosting or use a spatula to spread the frosting on.
  4. Optionally, sprinkle mini chocolate chips on top for decoration.
