Ingredients:

For the First Batter:

  • 50ml vegetable oil (half a tea glass)

  • 4g lemon juice (1 tablespoon)
  • 50g sugar (quarter cup)

  • Pastry cream
  • 2 bananas

  • Food coloring or cocoa powder (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Baking Tray:
    • Line your baking tray with parchment paper and draw your desired pattern on the reverse side of the paper.
  2. Prepare the First Batter:
    • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, milk, vegetable oil, and flour until smooth. Set aside.
  3. Prepare the Second Batter:
    • In another mixing bowl, beat the egg whites until frothy.
    • Gradually add the sugar while continuing to beat the egg whites.
    • Add the lemon juice and beat until stiff peaks form.
    • Gently fold the first batter into the beaten egg whites using a spatula, being careful not to deflate the mixture.
  4. Prepare the Decorative Batter:
    • Separate 1/4 of the batter and add food coloring or cocoa powder to achieve your desired color.
    • Place the colored batter in a piping bag (or a plastic bag with the corner snipped off) and pipe the design onto the prepared parchment paper.
    • Bake the design in a preheated oven at 160°C (320°F) for 1 minute to set.
  5. Bake the Cake:
    • Pour the remaining batter over the baked design and spread it evenly.
    • Bake in the preheated oven at 160°C (320°F) for 20-25 minutes, or until the cake is lightly golden and springs back when touched.
    • Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes.
  6. Assemble the Roll:
    • Once the cake has cooled slightly, spread the pastry cream evenly over the surface.
    • Place the bananas at one edge of the cake.
    • Carefully roll the cake from the edge with the bananas, using the parchment paper to help guide the roll.
    • Wrap the roll in the parchment paper and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to set.
  7. Serve:
