For the Batter:

  • 1 cup plus 1 tablespoon soft butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla sugar or vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt
  • 5 small eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3 tablespoons of milk

For the Chocolate Dough:

  • 3 tablespoons of baking cocoa
  • About 3 tablespoons of milk

For Dusting:

  • Powdered sugar

Also Needed:

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 160°C (320°F) on the convection setting. Grease a loaf tin or line it with baking paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, vanilla sugar, and salt until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next.
  4. Sift the flour and baking powder together. Gradually add these to the batter along with the milk, mixing until just combined.
  5. Pour roughly half of the batter into the prepared loaf tin.
  6. Stir the baking cocoa and additional milk into the remaining batter until well combined.
  7. Spoon the chocolate batter over the vanilla batter in the tin. Use a fork to gently swirl the two batters together, creating a marbled effect.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cake to cool in the tin for a while, then turn it out onto a wire rack.
