Ingredients:

For the Cream:

For the Cake:

  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup plus a little more vegetable oil
  • 2.5 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 packet vanilla sugar
  • 1 tea glass (about 100ml) ground hazelnuts

  • Sliced almonds
  • Powdered sugar

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Cream:
    • In a saucepan, combine the milk, sugar, cornstarch, flour, and egg yolk.
    • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.
    • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla sugar.
    • Cover the surface of the cream with plastic wrap to prevent a skin from forming and let it cool.
  2. Prepare the Cake:
    • Preheat your oven to 170°C (340°F).
    • In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs and sugar together until the mixture becomes light and fluffy.
    • Add the milk and vegetable oil, mixing until well combined.
    • Sift in the flour, baking powder, and vanilla sugar, then fold in the ground hazelnuts until the batter is smooth.
    • Line a baking pan with parchment paper and pour in the cake batter.
    • Sprinkle sliced almonds evenly over the top of the batter.
  3. Add the Cream:
    • Place the cooled cream into a piping bag or a plastic bag with a corner snipped off.
    • Pipe the cream in desired shapes or lines over the cake batter.
  4. Bake the Cake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until the cake is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
    • Allow the cake to cool slightly in the pan before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
