Crispy Honey Garlic Chicken with a Sweet and Spicy Glaze, Garnished with Sesame Seeds and Spring Onions


Chicken Marinade:

  • 650g chicken breast, cut into cubes
  • A dash of black pepper
  • A sprinkle of garlic powder


  • 1 egg
  • 60g corn starch (slightly less than half a cup)
  • 60g all-purpose flour (slightly less than half a cup)
  • 150ml sparkling mineral water
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Salt, to taste


  • 1.5 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 large clove garlic, minced
  • 4 tablespoons ketchup
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)


  • Chili peppers, sliced
  • Sesame seeds
  • Spring onions, chopped


  1. Season the cubed chicken breasts with black pepper and garlic powder.
  2. For the batter, whisk together the egg, corn starch, flour, sparkling water, garlic powder, black pepper, baking powder, and a pinch of salt in a bowl. Coat the seasoned chicken with this mixture and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a pan and fry the chicken pieces until golden and crispy. Do this in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  4. For the sauce, sauté minced garlic in oil until fragrant. Stir in ketchup, honey, and soy sauce. Cook briefly, then add chili flakes if desired.
  5. Toss the fried chicken in the sauce, ensuring each piece is well coated.
  6. Garnish the honey garlic chicken with sesame seeds, sliced chili peppers, and spring onions.
